I found this piece delightful.

Ten Reasons Why Men Should Not Be Ordained” by Ivan Emke

(From “Fly on the newsprint” in The Mennonite Reporter; reprinted at Words of a Fether blog)

It’s a satire on the reasons usually offered by complementarian Christians for why women should not be ordained as pastors or other leaders in the church. Some of the reasons could double as satires on the rationalizations given for why women don’t hold the priesthood in Mormonism.

#6 is weak IMO. I would have offered something about how Christ’s post-resurrection appearances were to women first, then to men, showing that women are to be preeminent in sharing the Gospel and men are to hearken unto their exhortations. I don’t actually feel that way, but it’s exactly the sort of dumb thing complementarians like to say about men coming first in the order of creation.

Wherever you are, Ivan Emke, thanks for the lulz.
